OK, I'm letting the cat out of the bag. Yes, I've organizing some of my teaching on this subject into a draft booklet. It's not finished yet; but, I've decided to share the outline. See if it doesn't stimulate some positive thoughts and prayers and actions in your heart and mind. I give credit to Michael Griffiths, who, a generation ago, published and subsequently republished a booklet with many of these same ideas over the course of twenty years of so. Each of the primary points and secondary points could easily be developed into a full chapter; though that is not my purpose or intent with this project. Please tell me what you think!
======================================
Introduction - Setting the scene:
1. the divergence of local church and mission agency missions directions
2. the dearth of qualified "career" missionary recruits today
3. the departure of mission agencies away from their founding purpose
4. the drift of local church from their responsibilities in missions
5. the disintegrating view of Scripture and of a biblical ecclesiology
The local church is the primary source of missionaries:
1. understanding the "missionary call"
2. undergirding the role of the local church (and its leaders)
3. underlying problems in the ministry philosophy of local church which prevent the development and sending of missionaries
The local church is the primary sending agent for missions:
1. the role of the sending church in selecting, sending, and shepherding missionaries
2. the role of the sending church in relation to the receiving church
3. the role of the sending church in relations to the missions agency
The local church's leaders are the primary shepherds of missions vision:
1. shepherds lead in missions passion and purpose
2. shepherds guide in missions vision and selection of missionaries
3. shepherds teach biblical missions principles and train missionary candidates/recruits
4. shepherds confirm individual candidate's missionary calling and direction
Local churches are the principal strategic goal of the work of missions
1. indigenous churches are the best long-term means of evangelism, discipleship, and leadership development
2. indigenous churches are the natural result of biblical missionary ministry
3. indigenous worship is the big overarching goal of God
